Voices released its latest report to help this surge of new talent find more fulfilling work in 2023. In particular, it stresses the need to elevate one’s voice acting skills by investing in a good microphone, finding a voice acting coach, and auditioning as frequently as possible. In fact, the report states that voice actors who work with a coach are 20% more likely to receive more casting auditions and book more roles.
Nevertheless, even with the right training, voice actors should attempt to audition more than five times a day. The report explains that there is a misconception that newer professionals should be more selective with their job applications or only audition for roles that match their skills and budget.
Voices recommends the opposite, claiming that new voice actors need to work on their visibility and credibility first. One of the best ways to achieve this is by auditioning as much as possible, or around 5 to 10 auditions each day. Prime full-time actors should aim even higher, with 25 daily auditions being the target. A good booking rate should be around 10% of all submitted auditions.
Lastly, the report mentions that companies prefer voice talents who can deliver “conversational” or ‘believable” styles. Voice talents need to project an air of authenticity to their performance and not sound too forced or formal. The modern consumer wants to hear voices that sound like their neighbor or best friend.
