Pregnancy Resource Center is Now Ava Health, a Program Enhancing Medical Services for Women’s Well-being

Some common pregnancy signs include a missed period, tender/swollen breasts, food/odor aversions, cramping, nausea, and fatigue. While the symptoms aren’t universal, women suspecting pregnancy can buy a home test or visit the Pregnancy Resource Center, now Ava Health, for tests that detect the hormone Human Chorionic Gonadotropin (HCG) in the body.

Ava Health uses laboratory-rated clinical urine-based pregnancy tests or quantitative/qualitative blood tests to discover a woman’s HCG level as early as 7 days after conception for accurate results.

Once a patient confirms their potential pregnancy, they can opt to see how far along they are with the center’s first or second obstetric ultrasounds that highlight the fetal heart rate and dating. During the ultrasound appointment, a nurse will begin by gathering details about the patient’s pregnancy and proceed to check their vital signs. They conduct a transabdominal ultrasound using a sound-conducting gel on the belly or a transvaginal ultrasound to obtain a clear image of the baby. Once the medical doctor confirms the pregnancy, they advise the patient to return after a few weeks for further assessments. This follow-up appointment allows them to determine the baby’s health, heart rate, gender, and positioning, and address any other issues that may arise.

Even in the best of circumstances, caring for a child is overwhelming, and the Pregnancy Resource Center supports women as they make informed decisions during their pregnancies. The team leverages over 30 years of experience helping new and veteran mothers find the resources they need to discover personalized ways of parenting and self-care. They inform patients about their options, from parenting styles to adoption, abortion, or financial implications. Women who choose adoption learn about its time frame, the biological parent’s rights, or the adoptive parents’ legal/financial responsibility.

According to Pregnancy Resource Center, when people think of adoption, they imagine closed adoptions where the birth parents’ records are sealed, cutting off communication between them and the adoptive parents before/after the adoption. However, there are open adoption options to permit communication between the two families or semi-open adoptions that allow the birth mother to have some say in which family will raise their child. Ultimately, the birth parents choose the kind of adoption that favors them or puts their child’s interest first. The center also provides medically accurate abortion information for women exploring that option.

Whether a woman is pregnant, younger than 25, or has a new/multiple sexual partner, Pregnancy Resource Center advises them to get STD testing done to protect their health. The center provides STI testing for chlamydia or gonorrhea using an in-clinic vaginal self-swab or a blood test. Though the team encourages patients to make an appointment before for an STI test, they have same-day availability for walk-in clients.
