MNDFL CMIs are Helping to Spread Mindfulness Worldwide.

MNDFL CMIs are helping spread mindfulness worldwide.

MNDFL Certified Mindfulness Instructors (CMIs) are bringing mindfulness into the world where it’s needed most. Last week, three MNDFL CMIs traveled with an organization called Peace on Purpose to lead mindfulness workshops at the home of the United Nations Office – Palais de Nations – in Geneva, Switzerland. When faced with the challenges of international humanitarian and development work, tools and resources to mitigate stress, ease anxiety, and avoid burnout are essential. Enter mindfulness – the evidence of its benefits are making it an increasingly accepted and even sought-after practice in more contexts, notably the workplace.

What is Peace on Purpose and Why Mindfulness for Humanitarian & Development Workers?

“We have the opportunity through Peace on Purpose to help reimagine wellbeing and wellness within the humanitarian sector, by partnering with the UN. To make a case for collective care, to acknowledge the barriers to wellness, to point out the wellbeing gap that exists, and to equip people to – yes – think about self-care, but to also think about collective care. To understand that we are as vulnerable as the most vulnerable, and that wellness = collective care. Because isn’t that the motivating force behind humanitarian work? -> collective wellbeing?” Kimberly Baker, Executive Director, Peace on Purpose.

How were the Mindfulness Workshops Received?

The workshop was designed with the belief that individual change – through mindfulness practices that enhance self-awareness and compassion – has the ability to lead to group transformation, collective transformation & organizational change. The full-day workshop includes a series of mindfulness meditation practices, somatic movement, and intentional reflection and conversation about self-awareness, self-compassion, and compassionate leadership. The goal is that people walk away with tools and practices for self-care as well as a commitment plan for compassionate leadership.

“Numerous people came up to us throughout the day sharing that they didn’t know the last time they took a moment to pause, breathe and care for themselves. One person said ‘I feel so incredibly empowered after today.’ Without knowing the ripples of impact this workshop may have beyond today, seeing the individuals in the room empowered and giving themselves permission to practice self-care is impact enough for me.” Ramsay Wing Okano Pierce, PoP Workshop Facilitator & MNDFL CMI
