Clinton School of Public Service Offers Professional Courses to Help Students Gain Practical Skills to Transform Their Communities

US – The Clinton School of Public Service at the University of Arkansas offers two degree programs in public service: the Master of Public Service (MPS) and Clinton School Online (CSO).

The first Master of Public Service degree in the nation, the Clinton School’s MPS is an action-oriented program focused on putting people first, and equipping students for the tough work of participatory, on-the-ground change. The MPS is a full-time, in-person program that balances rigorous public policy and data analysis with effective communication and intensive relationship-building.

While learning valuable lessons in the classroom, MPS students complete three for-credit public service projects ranging from local work in Arkansas communities to international projects on all of the world’s six inhabited continents. These practical, hands-on experiences help students develop the competency necessary to implement the principles and nuances of public service, and create transformative, sustainable change in the communities they are serving.

The MPS offers concurrent degree options in law, business, public health, and social work – each the first of their kind – that add dimensions to students’ studies and create a more versatile professional toolkit.

The MPS program includes 40 credit hours, which will extend to 46 hours in Fall 2023.

Clinton School Online (CSO) is a distance learning program with on-campus experiences at the start and conclusion of the program. The two-year, 36-hour program helps public service professionals sharpen their knowledge, develop their skills, and expand their networks for career advancement. Clinton School Online combines courses on field research and data analysis with courses focused on communication, advocacy, and leadership. Students conclude the program by designing and implementing an in-depth Capstone project with their employer or a partner organization of their choosing.

The Clinton School of Public Service offers its students numerous opportunities for scholarships, national awards, and fellowships. Beginning in Fall 2023, the school will be tripling its scholarship opportunities to enrolling students and will offer enhanced cost-of-living stipends. A list of eligibility requirements, deadlines, and specific admissions contacts has been posted on the school’s website. Interested applicants can schedule video chats with the admissions team to learn more about the eligibility prerequisites and enrollment process.

The public service school has a certified and experienced faculty of thought leaders and experts in community building who use modern teaching techniques to relay relevant information about the practice of public service to their students. The main campus has classrooms fitted with advanced audiovisual technology, a commons, a student lounge area, a library reading room, administrative and faculty offices, and conference areas. They focus on equipping students with relevant, practical information that will help them transform their communities through honest means that display a passion for justice.

Dean Victoria M. DeFrancesco Soto had this to say about the school,

“Clinton School graduates enjoy careers in a variety of professions in the public and private sectors. From the get-go, we pair off our students with high-touch faculty members to help them as they curate their own high-impact public service toolkits.”
