Birmingham Tackling Community Homelessness Committee Recruitment Launched

The latest launch from Winners Chapel International underlines its commitment to implementing faith-inspired projects on its doorstep through its Community Development Committee. The move responds to the rising numbers of homeless people on the city’s streets as the cost of living crisis deepens.

The recent announcement details the work of Winners In The Community – the chapel’s longstanding local development arm, established over 10 years ago to provide services at the point of need for the more vulnerable members of society. The project covers everything from homelessness initiatives to skills training for the unemployed.

Figures published by Birmingham Live revealed an 11.5% increase in the number of people sleeping rough during 2021. These figures have been compounded in 2022 by the lifting of the eviction ban which was brought in during the height of the pandemic.

Within the last three years alone, Winners Chapel UK has invested over 520,000 in food bank projects and homeless support initiatives, impacting over 25,000 beneficiaries. These projects have been made possible by generous donations to the work of the church but also by the time given by volunteers to ensure help is given where it is most needed.

The committee is seeking new members to help roll out its frontline support for individuals or families on or below the poverty line. Enterprise and employability training is also being implemented, arming jobseekers with new skills to build a more secure future for themselves and their dependents.

Other facets of the Winners In The Community project include health, safety, and environmental endeavours alongside campaigns to encourage collaboration, inclusion, and diversity across all aspects of community life.
