Artist Responds to Florida’s “Don’t Say Gay” Bill With New NFT Collection

New NFT project provides a new take on inclusivity in a historically restrictive industry.

Orlando, FL, USA — In March of 2022, Florida Gov. Ron Desantis signed House bill 1577 creating considerable controversy. The bill restricts school districts from the encouragement of “classroom discussion about sexual orientation or gender identity.” Opponents of the legislation quickly began to classify it as the “Don’t Say Gay” bill. In fact, one artist went a step further to create an entire NFT collection, citing it as a method for “change, activism, and social awareness.”

As digital assets continue to grow and evolve, the NFT industry is certainly no exception. With a year-to-year growth rate of over 5000% and $41 billion in global sales at the end of 2021, NFTs are attracting more artists, developers and investors than ever before.

Despite the exponential growth of NFTs, Florida native and artist Taylor Diamond-Vizcaino feels there is still much more work to be done. Her passion to create a more inclusive space led to the creation of the Pride Pixies NFT collection.

Purpose of Pride Pixies:

Pride Pixies is an inclusive NFT collection with a primary focus on supporting female empowerment, LGBTQ+, human rights activism and women in tech.

The project has special meaning to its founder, as she focuses on cultivating a supportive community behind the NFT collection.

“We are dedicated to promoting a community where individuals from all over the world can identify and express themselves freely.”

With goals tailored toward empowering marginalized people, each NFT is designed to represent a variety of underrepresented individuals. With 10,557 designed NFTs, each has a meaning aimed at supporting diversity and inclusion.

Team focus and future goals:

The founder and team members of the project hope to change the lives of others through “activism, support, inclusivity, acceptance and representation.”

They cite their expectations to see people – regardless of age, sexual orientation, gender, ethnicity, religion, or race – grow both socially and economically.

The team has high hopes for the NFT industry, stating that it’s not just about the art but also a way to “connect, build and unify the world together.”

Future projects include launching a play-to-earn video game that will allow users to play and earn a passive income while also showing support for human rights activism by donating 5% of profits from the Pride Pixies NFT collection to Human Rights Campaign Foundation.

Current challenges in the NFT arena:

Unfortunately, even though the NFT arena continues to see exponential growth, less than 1% of the world population has knowledge of or actively trades them. Furthermore, people who are somewhat familiar with NFTs often associate them with FUD (fear, uncertainty, and doubt) without understanding their real-world applications. In fact, most people view NFTs as simple images.

On the contrary, as new NFTs are being introduced and gaining traction from a wider audience, more people are likely to be open to the idea of NFTs.

Along with creating the NFT collection, the Pride Pixies team has additional goals as well. The team plans to actively participate in educational marketing events, supply tutorials and provide educational content. They believe this will help bridge the gap between those with extensive NFT knowledge and those that have misunderstandings about the tokens.
